I was around 8 week post-partum, and I remember calling my best friend crying, because I had just seen a Womens Health Physio who told me what I thought I would never hear… That I’d torn off half my pelvic floor giving birth to my son, and I could never lift heavy again. At the time, that was the worst news ever. I had built a career around heavy lifting and being fit. Who was I if I wasn’t someone who lifted weights? Why did this happen? I had a fit pregnancy. What do I do now? How do I get past this? I was lucky I had studied Pre & Post Natal Coaching, and I had worked alongside a Womens Health Physio running mums and bubs classes, so I knew where to start. I also knew, if I was blindsided by this birth injury, surely so many other women are too? To be honest, I was a little mad. Angry. Why doesn’t anyone talk about this?
I wasn’t sure what my future in fitness looked like, but I knew I had to use this to grow, learn and become a better person.
So now, I help other women who also found themselves with birth injuries and pelvic floor dysfunction. I created a program I wished was around when I first gave birth. A roadmap for all the postpartum women, and especially those experiencing heaviness, leaking and weakness, who want to be able to safely move their body and re-strengthen again!
